Regathering Plan

June 2020

Updated 5/23/2020

The Corona Virus pandemic has been a challenge for all of us.  Curtailment of public gatherings and stay at home orders have made fellowship challenging.   According to the Governor of the State of Maine,  certain gatherings can resume starting on May 29, 2020. Gatherings consisting of 50 or less are allowed under the new state reopening plan.

With that in mind, we will begin gathering again at our church building starting on May 31st.

Sunday Morning Worship:

Weekly worship will begin on Sunday, May 31st

To accommodate the less than 50 requirements, we will have two (2) one-hour worship services on Sunday mornings.

  • The first will be at 9:00 AM to conclude at 10:00 AM.
  • The second will be at 10:30 AM to conclude at 11:30 AM.

A recent survey indicated that 90% of our congregation is ready to resume gathering at the church. Our average worship attendance is 85.  This necessitates the two services. There will be a survey asking you/your family which service you will plan on attending. We will need to balance our number to about  50/50 between the two services to maintain compliance.

Prayer Meeting:

Weekly prayer meeting, held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30,  will return to the church building on June 3rd

Youth Group

Weekly youth gatherings held on Friday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 will return to the church building on June 12th.

Sunday School

Sunday school will resume at a later date with a plan based on the learnings from our regathering for weekly worship.

Child Care/Nursery

We will not offer nursery/child-care during the worship services. We will also hold off on starting children’s church.  We will develop a plan to resume those as we move into the summer.

We hope the shorter services, plus the addition of a children’s sermon time during the worship service, will help families to be together and enjoy worship as a family.

Protocols for Gathering

Social distancing as well as other abatement measures are still the norm in our daily lives. We need to mirror those as we gather again for worship. We will take the following steps to maximize safety for everyone.

  • We have decreased seating and spread out the chairs in our sanctuary to assist in social distancing.
  • We ask families and folks from the same household sit together during worship.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in several locations.
  • All should avoid personal contact such as handshakes and hugs.  (Let us wave and smile at each other for a while.)
  • Anyone not feeling well, has a cough, or temperature should stay at home.
  • Offerings will be collected at the end of worship at a table in the foyer.
  • Communion will be with individual self-contained cup which includes bread and grape juice. These will be a table in the foyer for worshippers to pick up prior to the services where communion is observed.
  • Spaces used on Sundays (sanctuary, foyer, bathrooms) will undergo a thorough cleaning and sanitation before the following Sunday.
  • The church will not offer personal protective equipment such as masks/face coverings or gloves.  Feel free to wear such items to church if you believe you need to.

Worship for those at home

For those that opt not to return to the worship gathering will still be able to watch one of the services via our YouTube channel. We will be broadcasting the 10:30 AM service.

It is with eager anticipation that we all are looking forward to worshipping together once again. These measures will help us make the transition back to community life.  Feel free to reach out the Pastor Tim or one of the elders if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Church Family,

The Elders met last evening to put together a plan as we minister during this time of uncertainty.

As you are well-aware, both the National and State authorities are asking that we continue with social distancing measures and curtail any gatherings of 10 or more.

In keeping with that request, we will not be holding regular meetings on Sundays March 22 and March 29.  No Sunday School or morning worship on those dates.

In addition, the hostile event training scheduled for Saturday, March 28 will be rescheduled to a later date.

The elders will be meeting again on Monday, March 30 to discuss further  Sunday schedules based on current information at that time.

Clearly, the shape or our ministry at New Covenant is changing.  And we as a body need to adapt.  The elders would like us to focus on these 3 areas during this time. 2)

1)Care ministry to the flock.

Cliff Foster (elder) will be working with the deacons to put together a schedule whereby each member is contacted on a frequent basis.  The objective will be to pray and understand how the church can help during this time of crisis.

As a reminder, these are your deacons:  T.J Tate, Kevin Tate, Bob Glidden, Andy Andrews, Justus Brierley. Ongoing communication from the church.

2) Communication with the body.

We will utilize the following 3 means to communicate to the flock at this time. 1) Church website, 2)Church Facebook page (not group), 3)Flocknote.

These will have the most up to date information as we live in this new normal for the next several weeks.

As always, leaders are  only a phone call away.  If you have questions,           please don’t hesitate to call.

There will be a daily encouragement devotional that will go out via Flocknote email as well as posted on the church website.

Pastor Tim will be streaming (broadcasting) a YouTube message on both Sunday’s at 10:30 AM. A link to that live on-line event will go out to you via Flocknote and the church Facebook page.

3) Financial Stability

This pandemic has brought the additional consequence of economic instability.

First, If, you are faced with economic hardship, please reach out to the deacons. The church desires to help.

Second, the church needs your continued stewardship through tithes and offerings.

1.You can mail in your tithes and offerings to:

New Covenant Baptist Church, P.O. Box 288, North Berwick, ME 03906

2. You can give online through Tithe.ly.  Follow this link to set up an account with them. Once set up, search for “New Covenant Baptist Church, North Berwick, ME”

get.tithe.ly

Choose: “sign up for free” and then “give to church”

In addition, we will be good stewards of our resources.  We desire to protect our commitments to utilities, staff, and our missionary partners.  Until further notice all discretionary general fund spending is curtailed. Designated fund spending will be on a case-by-case-basis.  Please reach out to Pastor Tim or our treasurer Judy Newton before spending any designated funds.

Finally, I found these words in the book of Isaiah a great comfort:

Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’ ” (Is. 44:8)

While we make these adjustments, these are the words we need in our hearts and minds.   Loved ones, let us continually look to the Rock – this rock is Jesus!  We are safe in His fold.  May He be glorified through this!

Dear Church family,We are experiencing a time of great upheaval.  Changing information from the governing authorities seems to be coming down to us seemingly every hour.   Today, President Trump asked Americans to curtail any gatherings over 10 people. This is an effort to thwart off the spread of the virus. We believe that NCBC should comply for the sake of our love for people and respect for our government.    We will not be having any weekday or weeknight gatherings at the church building for the remainder of this week. (March 17 to 20)Evening bible studies, prayer meeting, and youth group meeting are cancelled for this week. The elders are gathering Thursday evening for prayer and planning. We will release next steps on Friday. Our schedules are being rearranged.  Our routines are being interrupted.Yet, I pray our trust in God will not waiver. Remind yourself daily of the character of God.   He Said:Romans 8:35–3935 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? …37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Nothing can separate us from the abiding character of God that is expressed in His love for us!  Through Him who loves us, we will pass through this!
In Christ Alone!
